The 73rd Independence Day of our country was celebrated with great zeal and respect (at Mary Immaculate School, Bangalore). The ceremony started at 8.30 a.m. in the school open ground with a large crowd of staff, students and parents.
Dr. H.T. Sangliana, the Chief guest of the day, Sr. Ida Barboza the joint secretary of Mary Immaculate Institutions, Sr. Sevika, Headmistress of Mary Immaculate High School, Sr. Alicia, Headmistress of Kindergarten section, Sr. Rosevera the principal of our school and the PTA Executive members were escorted by the dynamic school band.
The day started with a blissful prayers service for the martyrs and soldiers of our country led by the students of class 7 and 8. The Principal, Sr. Rosevera welcomed the august gathering and introduced the Chief Guest, Dr. H.T. Sangliana, Retd. Commissioner of Police, Bangalore city as a devout, virtuous man, a coveted and patriotic police office with a few books and poems to his credit. He spent 36 years of his life serving the country arduously. Most of the traffic rules implemented are the brainchild of Dr. H. T. Sangliana.
To commemorate the sovereignty of our nation, our eminent guest Dr.H.T. Sangliana unfurled the tricolor flag and all present in unison with the school band sang the National Anthem jubilantly. The air was filled with patriotism by the melodious songs and graceful dances performed by the students of class 9 and 10. A soul stirring musical skit was performed by the students of class 8 and 9 paying their tribute to the Indian Soldiers – a living epitome of bravery, valour and courage. A short skit on the heroic feat of Wing Commander AbhinandanVarthaman was enacted by the students of class 7, 8 and 10 in keeping with the motto of the Indian Air Force – “Touching the Sky with Glory”.
The Chief Guest in his speech extolled the students for their commitment, dedication and enthusiasm in celebrating the 73rd Independence Day of our Country. Dr. H.T. Sangliana in his address gave a four tier advise to the students – to show reverence to God, to excel in the assigned work, to stand against injustice and to voice against corruption. He congratulated the teachers for choosing this noble profession of moulding young minds into responsible future citizens of our country.
Miss Unnathi Shiva of class 8 shared her views on the significance of the day. The programme was compered by emcees Miss Shreya R. and Miss AnangaRekha of class 10. The skit was scripted by Miss Dipti Sharma of class 10 and narrated by Miss Rida, the School Pupil Leader.
The programme concluded with the vote of thanks by Miss NiveditaRajshekar of class 9. At the end of the programme , sweets were distributed to the students and parents.
Indeed, it was a day of joy, a day to love and respect our country and make it a better place for Indians to live and experience the freedom, peace and unity in diversity.
