“When a poor person dies of hunger, it has not happened because God did not take care of him or her. It has happened because neither you nor I wanted to give that person what he or she needed”.
To make the students aware about poverty and to encourage them to bring about a change in the lives of the poor, a programme was hosted by the students of class VII, VIII, IX and X to commemorate the World Day of the Poor. The day was initiated by Pope Francis on November 19, 2017 with the theme ‘Let us love not with words, but with deeds”. The BBMP workers of Wilson Garden were invited to be honoured. The programme began with a prayer dance invoking God’s blessings. The gathering was welcomed by Teacher Suma. Students were enlightened about the importance of the day and encouraged to instill the feeling of charity to justify this year’s theme ‘The hope of the poor shall not perish for ever”. The day was celebrated with a colourful cultural programme having its share of dance, music and skit to entertain as well spread the message of the importance of Pourakarmikas to the Indian society and the need to respect them for their service.
The programme was compered by Teacher Stella and the Vote of thanks was proposed by Sr. Ida Barboza, the Joint Secretary of Mary Immaculate Institutions.
The BBMP workers were felicitated with gifts and a sumptuous lunch.
